Step-Down Unit Internship
Make the transition from student to professional with Lehigh Valley Hospital and Health Network’s step-down unit internship.
If you’re a nurse interested in building your medical/surgical skills and getting a taste of critical care, you’ll enjoy building your clinical competency on the job with our step-down unit internship. With no tuition costs, our internships give you the opportunity to develop and apply your clinical knowledge and skills while receiving a full salary and benefits.
Designed to prepare you for employment in one of our step-down units, this program combines the medical/surgical internship with specific aspects of the critical care internships, depending on the unit you work on. This provides you an opportunity to gain knowledge related to cardiac care.
If you decide this is the internship for you, you will be hired into one of these three units:
- Progressive Coronary Unit
- CVCU-Cardiovascular Care Unit at Lehigh Valley Hospital—Muhlenberg
- Transitional Open Heart Unit (TOHU) at Lehigh Valley Hospital—Cedar Crest
Requirements for participating in one of our internship opportunities include:
- New or recent graduate of accredited nursing program
- Current GPA and/or transcript
- Two letters of reference from recent clinical instructors
- Current BLS Provider
- Temporary PA practice permit or successful completion of requirements for PA Registered Nurse Licensure or NCLEX-RN
